Flooring sample and what to do about glazing
We had our colour appointment (initial) with Sekisui on Saturday at Oran Park. It was good in that we got a lot of brochures and was walked through the different options. I was thinking that it was fairly late in the process considering we had our second version of plans but it also sounds like it's a new change for their process where they do the colour appointment prior to doing the contract so there isn't any 'sticker' shock.
It probably would have been a bit better had we had some idea of some costs. Surely a per square metre cost could be derived for the 'to ceiling' tiles request? Also the pack we received was nice but there were still missing brochures and ones which had to be emailed. I would have thought these packs would be pre-prepared and just a matter of tweaking them if needed?
This first appointment we were told is very easy and it proved itself that as we didn't need to make any decisions it was just a 'here are your options' session with us asking a lot of questions. We did sneak in a number of variations which have now been submitted as well. These included things like the floor to ceiling tiling in the bathrooms, the move of the mixer in the shower to the entry side (so as to not burn my arm off when turning on the hot/cold water), shower niches, updated our front door request, verified the stove I'd prefer and kitchen cabinets to the ceiling.
We're told the tiles supplier is Beaumont tiles but have decided that we'll have to go some other weekend as the showroom we've been advised to go to is all the way in Prospect. I'm a bit concerned we only get the 'Emerald' range but then I have no idea what is in the Emerald range... and we don't have super fancy tastes so we should be OK. I did enjoy the colour wizard though and after we each did it agreed we like our individual colour schemes better than each other's... even though they were very similar! It looks like it will be Brown...

Today we helped a friend buy a Smart TV. (A Samsung 6400 series 40 inch). And whilst shopping popped into a Hardly Normal store to have a look at the floorboards again. I finally managed to secure a sample of the Nova Brown floor I like. Here's a photo of the instore display of the colour (alongside Natural):
The sample board was a $20 'deposit' which is refundable if we return the board. At this stage we're not planning to return it (which is fine by them btw!) so we can take it to our colour selections meetings and just have a reference for furniture etc.
The other thing we've been spending time on is coming up with a glazing spreadsheet. I've got it sorted except for the actual glazing... as we're not sure what the cost difference is going to be for the different types of glazing we can get with Stegbar in relation to thermal efficiency (I use this term loosely to cover all the heat gain/loss that we may get). We're trying to get the light without the heat from summer but want the winter warmth in but not out. :D easy!
